Today, 3 of IPCSC’s young volunteers were rewarded with their Saltire Awards in recognition of the work they have done for the Club and to volunteering. Scott Touchstone Hall, Liam Cadle and Sarah Barron have all volunteered with IPCSC after passing through the Sports Leaders Award Level 2 which was a joint venture with Liberton High School and IPCSC. During the course they had practical experience of working with local young people as well as getting their Rugby Ready, Intro to Cricket and TOP’s training amongst other coaching courses.

Scott Touchstone Hall said of the course “It was a good experience, enjoyable and it is useful for a future in sport. It also allowed me to gain confidence and experience other sports.” Scott has been assisting the IPCSC Sports Programme Manager in organising the new s1/2 rugby team at Liberton High School as well as assisting with Lismore Minis on a Sunday.

Sarah Barron, who has also been helping out with the Lismore Mini section said of the volunteer experience, “I would never have picked up a rugby ball before, however, I have been helping out with Lismore Mini section and I am even thinking of starting to play.” Sarah is also hoping to use her Sports Leaders and volunteering experience to further her coaching aspirations after she leaves school.

Liam Cadle, who is starting the Access to HND Sports Coaching course at Telford College on Monday (27/08/2012), said “The Sports Leaders course helped me to get into College as we completed several different coaching courses and we had a lot of practical work through our Festival and the Easter Camp at IPCSC. After completing the course we had the chance to get paid employment at IPCSC’s Summer Camp.” Liam has been helping out at Edinburgh South Football Club and has progressed through a number of his coaching badges.

Both Sarah and Liam have gained their “Ascent- 50 hours” certificate, whilst Scott gained his “Approach- 10 and 25 hours” certificates. Sarah and Scott are looking to return to IPCSC this year to sit on the Community Sports Leaders Level 2, which is a step above what they did last year and will again be delivered with Liberton High School. IPCSC is also looking to deliver a Community based Sports Leaders Level 3 course in early 2013.
